"Today, Twitter announced policy changes that will put significant and practical controls in place to help victims of online harassment on the Twitter platform. The new policy allows victims of so-called ‘revenge porn’ (the nonconsensual distribution of intimate images) to flag and report the abuse. Twitter will then suspend the account of the user until that user proves that the person pictured in the intimate photograph or video consented to both its creation and public distribution. Victims of egregious privacy violations face significant practical challenges in preventing the nonconsensual distribution of intimate images. Twitter's new policy can enable victims to quickly prevent the further dissemination of the illicit images. Without My Consent applauds Twitter's actions. We believe actions like this from industry, together with efforts from the Attorney General of California to fight cyber exploitation, will improve the situation for victims of online harassment."
